The Candle Light Children: FRIENDS
The Candle Light Children, the project of Jakarta-based Adan Wachjo, has been establishing himself as retro indie pop charmer with a slew of groovy singles over the past year - from “It Doesn’t Matter Anyway”, to “Hope You Enjoy Your Stay” and “Be Honest”. On his new single “Friends”, Wachjo is going for a breezier route - “And I’ve been living on my own / Living off of my own clothes / And I will never understand / Maybe we’re just better off as friends,” he sings, as his musings about regrets and lost loves blend in with twinkling synths and a Two Door Cinema Club-like shuffle. The track’s a whole lot of fun, and it’s got a video accompanying it that’ll bring you right back to high school proms - Wachjo takes a stylish drive with his friends, pulling up at a neon-glitzed party. The whole brings a much needed youthful glow to his work, an effervescence that looks to elevate him from the slight cheesiness of his past work.
