Mervin Wong: Resonance In The Air

Sound artist / ambient producer Mervin Wong is back with new material, this time with a new two-track release, Resonance in the Air. Formerly known as Planeswalker (a cool name that we thought was a shame to leave behind), his track record has been solid so far - with him building on his 2020 debut Perihilion last year with the terrifyingly immersive EP Entity, which we believed to be one of 2021’s best records. Shedding the moniker for his own name, the release’s title track is fittingly assertive, serving up a blend of dense soundscapes as fragmented strings, pulsating synths and fractured voices come together into an earthshaking whole. Accompanying the title track is a glowing ambient counterpart, “Let Go Your Earthly Tether” - as Wong’s statement of rebirth winds down, its glowing synths seem to suggest there’s more to come in his next dimensions.

As part of Singapore Art Week 2022, Wong, as Planeswalker, is also putting on display the sonic installation “Insulate”, as part of the event It's my party and I'll cry if I want to, you would cry too if it happened to you, curated by Louis Ho. The event, and his installation will be available for viewing at the Projector until 6 February. Find more details here.
