nkei: You
Gearing up for the release of their debut EP, alt-R&B duo nkei’s third single, “You”, is a beautifully melancholic track that features vocalist Raizel Gonzales’ gorgeous vocals and heart-wrenching lyricism at its forefront (“Is this a sign that you cannot be mine? / Or am I just difficult to love with the way I point at mistakes / In the truth of this world and this universe”). Thanks to partner-in-crime Ian Lee, the track’s also spruced up with tastefully dynamic arrangements and production as accompaniment, building sparse classical guitars up into soaring catharsis. Recorded and produced in-house by Lee’s own Panik Records, the single was released by indie label White Feather Records, who have also recently signed indie rockers Pleasantry and is rumoured to be signing up-and-coming R&B singer-songwriter Angelo. For now, nkei’s serving up the crooning bliss that Lee’s coming to specialise in.
