A little disclaimer on our reviews!

Every week here at Big Duck, we cover and review Singaporean and Asian music from across the spectrum. It’s fun, rewarding and has continued to drive us - for that, we thank you all for sending in your music for us to enjoy!

Unfortunately, these sometimes also include negative reviews. Sometimes, they aren’t that pretty at all.

-

Why do we have negative reviews? Doesn’t that bring down the community that we say we want to support?

This is important. We believe in the spirit of keeping things constructive, while also maintaining honesty in the opinions that we express. Thus, we try and focus on the music itself in our reviews, and put all artists on an equal weighting no matter their genre, audience size or experience. We believe this is what’s fair and what’s needed to elevate our artists and music.

We give autonomy for everyone to express their opinions, but we also edit to remove overly personal judgements and attacks, as well as inaccurate facts and details. We believe in the potential of all artists that we cover, and thus we will always refrain from personal condemnation of projects as a whole. That being said, this unfortunately doesn’t exempt music that we receive from some not-so-nice reviews - such is criticism and the process of it. Constructive criticism does not always mean balanced reviews.

We believe that this balance is important to keep criticism accountable and legitimate. If we were always positive, we believe that our criticism would lose weight and meaning.

Don’t like what we say?

That’s fine! Listeners and fans should be able to make their own judgements - and as long as you believe in your own music, we respect that too. That’s dope!

Everyone has different opinions - it’s subjective. These are opinions rather than statements of fact, and they are always written in the spirit to help make the work better.

And in the end, we always look forward to everyone’s next bangers. Here at Big Duck, we firmly support everyone in making and highlighting good music - we’re always excited to hear more.
